Ultramarathon is an event where one runs longer than the traditional marathon length of 42.195 kilometres. Some of the common distances includes 50, 100 and even multiday races of 1000 miles or even longer! The numbers are just mind-boggling and intimidating right, but these special breed of runners just revel in such a challenge. Well I was reading an online article, and one ultramarathoner is mounting an attempt at a 127 year old athletic record. William Sichel is taking part in the ‘Athens International Ultramarathon Festival 7 Day’ event to be held this coming April 3rd. He hopes to break the 127 year old record of 6 Day record set by Edinburgh’s George Cameron in New York in 1882. The 55 year old is the world top ultramarathoner where he has been not been beaten in any event over 48 hours. Sichel said, “I have had a good build up to this event and I’m really looking forward to having another shot at this amazing record. I’ll need some luck with the weather conditions but I’m prepared for everything so fingers crossed.”
