Tyson Gay sets ‘straight’ 200m World Record, 19.41s
  • May 17th, 2010

At the Great City Games Manchester held during the weekend, American sprinter Tyson Gay sizzles the event with a new straight 200m World Record, setting a new mark of 19.41 seconds.

Tyson Gay was quoted, “Going into the race I knew it was going to be tough to beat the record. It was pretty hard for the first 100m or so and I was extremely tired. Kim Collins had an excellent start and I think that motivated me to get down the street.”

Gay beats Tommie Smith’s 44-year-old mark by 0.09 seconds. The second placed finisher was Kim Collins, he was clocked at 20.59 seconds.

It was the same track last year where Usain Bolt set a new 150m World Record. Bolt ran 14.35 seconds.
