Thai team shows why they’re the team to beat in Asia. Video taken of Doha 2006 Asian Championship (Thailand Men’s teams is Asian 4×100m champion in 1970, 1974, 1978, 2002, 2006, 2007). Now Olympic challenge beckons
Only top 16 nation with the best time in the world can only get the berth to run the qualifying rounds at the Beijing Olympics. That has been the benchmark standard for years and our Southeast Asian counterpart, the Thais did just about qualify with the closest of margin
The Dutch and Swiss 4×100m relay team was the closest to the Thai team and threaten to grab the 16th spot from them at the final qualifying of International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) approved meets held in Lucerne, Switzerland on Wednesday, but they failed
The Netherlands and Switzerland finished 17th and 18th fastest time position respectively. The Dutch ran 39.03s (Torino) and 38.92s (Lucerne) with a 38.98s average timing while the Swiss ran 39.02s (Geneva) and 39.24s (Lucerne) with 39.13s average timing
The Thai has a better average timing of 38.95s which was established at SEA Games (38.95s, gold) and Asian Grand Prix (38.94s). The Thai team will send Sithichai Suvornprateep, Watchara Sorndee, Sirirote Darasuriyong, Apinan Sukapai, Sompote Suwannarangsi, and Taweesak Poonthong to Beijing
