Tassos Gousis, a 29 year old Greek sprinter slated to run the 200m has failed a drug test. His result turned positive for the banned steroid methyltrienolone and has been sent home. It is likely Gousis, a first time offender will face 2 year suspension and denied future participation of the Olympics, a ruling under IOC if the meted suspension if more than 6 months Another athlete who was sent home was Russian steeplechase runner Roman Usov. The 30 year old failed the drug test when his result conducted at the Russian trials last month turned positive. He was caught for the banned substance Carphedon. Usov was expected to run in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase after qualifying second at the trials These recent drug scandals is making news at the Olympics despite only it its first day. This will be the Greeks 14th athlete to test positive for drugs since May this year, while the Russian athletics federation was recently rocked with a seven Russian female athletes who were implicated in a doping scandal
