Stratford Triathlon is part of UK Triathlon series
Stratford Triathlon has been staged for the past 14 years and it saw its first ever casualty yesterday.
A man was in the second stage of a triathlon cycling, when he collapsed due to cardiac arrest.
The public assisted giving CPR before ambulance services arrived, but that wasn’t enough to keep him alive.
He was confirmed dead at the scene by the arriving air ambulance doctors.
Stratford Triathlon consist of fun triathlon, sprint triathlon or relay triathlon sections, and it is not know which of the category the man has participated in.
For the event, participants either swim 200m or 400m, then a 23km cycle and finally a 2.5km or 5km run depending on the section they took part.
The event organiser was quoted, “After 14 years of the Stratford Triathlon, the event organisers are shocked and saddened at the death of one of the competitors at the event yesterday. Our deepest sympathies go out to the competitor’s family at this time. I’d like to thank the emergency services for their swift response. Out of respect for the family we cannot comment further.”
