![]() Rashid Ramzi is a drug cheat Rashid Ramzi is a track and field athlete competing internationally for Bahrain in the 800, 1500 and 5000 meters, who defeated Kenyan runner Asbel Kiprop to win the gold medal in the 1500m race at the 2008 Olympics, winning in 3:32.94. But his win is in doubt after his ‘A’ sample given during the 2008 Summer Olympics tested positive. His ‘B’ sample was also later confirmed positive.
And with that it is found Ramzi tested positive for CERA, an advanced version of the blood-boosting drug EPO, and is stripped of his Olympic gold medal by the IAAF. Ramzi is the first Bahrainian to get its first ever Olympic track and field gold medal. He still claims innocent. It is likely that Asbel Kipruto Kiprop of Kenya would be upgraded to gold, Nicolas Willis of New Zealand the silver, and fourth-place finisher Mehdi Baala of France would get the bronze. |
