Injury Forces Paula Radcliffe out of London Marathon
  • March 5th, 2009

Paula Radcliffe will always be remembered for her London Marathon participation back in 2005. Stopping to pee and going on to win the event.

First it was a hip injury which ruined her chances of a medal count in the Beijing Olympics, and now a broken toe had forced her to pull out of the next month’s Flora London Marathon on April 26th.

This injury could also ruin her participation at this summer’s World Championships in Berlin.

The 35 year old would have to relinquish her attempt for a fourth title at the London Marathon and Mara Yamauchi and Jo Pavey are now favored to win the women’s category.

Radcliffe commented, “I am desperately disappointed that I have to pull out of this year’s race, especially as I was looking forward to running in front of the amazing crowds of spectators in London that always offer such great support.”

It is believed her high-mileage that has caused much of her injuries these few years.
