Olympic 2008 Hammer Throw Medals Changed Hands
  • December 13th, 2008

Clockwise: Vadim Devyatovskiy, Ivan Tsikhan, Koji Murofushi and Krisztián Pars

It is not the first time that Japanese hammer thrower Koji Murofushi had his medal ‘upgraded’ after doping scandal resulted in other Olympic winners being stripped of their medals.

Murosushi was awarded gold for the Athens Olympic after Hungarian Adrian Annus was disqualified for a doping violation back in 2004.

The Japanese hammer thrower finished second to Adrian back then.

And now with IOC recently stripping original silver and bronze medalists, Vadim Devyatovskiy and Ivan Tsikhan of Belarus for the hammer throw at Beijing Olympics 2008 after finding traces of testosterone, the fifth placed finished Murofushi has been awarded the bronze while Krisztián Pars of Hungary took silver.

  1. Gold medal – Primo Kozmus Slovenia (82.02)
  2. Silver medal – Vadim Devyatovskiy Belarus (81.61)
  3. Bronze medal – Ivan Tsikhan Belarus (81.51)

Current Rectification

  1. Gold medal – Primo Kozmus Slovenia (82.02)
  2. Silver medal – Krisztián Pars Hungary (80.96)
  3. Bronze medal – Koji Murofushi Japan (80.71)
