Kenyan Olympic 10,000m bronze medalist Micah Kogo has set a new world record for 10 km on the road yesterday. He achieved a new time of 27:01 to break the old mark by a second set by Haile Gebrselassie in Doha in December, 2002. Kogo was running at the Parelloop 10-K in Brunssum, Netherlands. The previous course record was 27:07, also set by him back in 2007. The 22 year old from the start ran an “awesome display of front running” as mentioned by his manager Ricky Simms of Pace Sports Management. Kogo was quoted saying, “After running 27:07 in 2007 I always had it in my mind to come back and try for the world record on this course.”
