  • January 13th, 2009

Manuel Martinez is a Spanish shot putter who was the 2002 European Athletics Indoor Championships and 2003 World Indoor Championships gold medalist.

He also participated in the 2004 edition of the Olympic games and is one of the top European elite shot putter with titles in the SPAR European Cup and the Mediterranean Games.

Well the 1.86m big lad is now acting in upcoming film called Estigmas.

Translated as ‘Stigmata’ in English, it is based on a comic book adaptation of Lorenzo Mattotti’s Estigmas. The film is directed by Adan Aliaga Vallencia and will debut around February 2009.

The official movie sypnosis is, “Stigma is the story of the loneliness of a man marked by a tragic fate, the emergence of some sores on his hands that he represents God and that it enclosed in a world of madness.”

The 33 year old had to do the usual screen tests and audition like any other to get the role. As for shotput, he promises to return to the field this summer when he finally finished his acting stint.

Manuel targets the IAAF World Championships in Berlin, hoping to smash the Spanish record of 21.47m and go beyond the 21.5m distance for any realistic chance of getting on the podium.
