Liu Xiang Targets First Race In September
  • January 7th, 2009

In the next few months, the former 110m hurdles world record holder Liu Xiang is dedicating himself to rehabilitation from his Achilles injury and staying out of competition.

Sources says, his earliest competition would be the Shanghai Grand Prix on homesoil to be held around September.

That would mean the 25 year old is out of any IAAF races and World Championships when the outdoor season starts.

His coach Sun Haiping wants at least a 13.20 seconds performance before allowing Liu Xiang to run in any races, as getting eliminated or losing would be “damaging to his confidence”.

Liu Xiang recently underwent a surgery in the United States and is currently doing his rehabilitation programme in Houston.
