Liu Xiang promises to return this year after suffering from an Achilles tendon injury that forced him to withdraw from the last Olympics.

Although not specifically stating any dates or the event he might make his debut, it is said China hurdling star would participate in the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix this September.

The 25 year old added, “I never said I would (on his Shanghai Golden Grand Prix participation). In fact, I myself don’t know when I can return. But I think that it should be possible this year. However, I haven’t given myself a date, because the priority is to see if my foot has healed. My foot is much better, but now the important thing is to see if it can take the strain, at the moment my training is still not very intense.”
