Leonard Chuene, the suspended South African Athletics President faces disrepute charge, as he had committed “gross misconduct” by allowing the participation of Caster Semenya in the World Championship in Berlin last August.
The masculine Caster Semenya won gold in the women’s 800 metres at the 2009 World Championships, sparking controversy over her gender.
Makhenkesi Stofile, the South African Sport and Recreation Minister Makhenkesi, briefed the media that despite the medical advice Chuene received regarding Semenya, Chuene still included her for the team.
Makhenkesi added Chuene “ignored that professional advice and went ahead”, and had brought South African Athletics, and SASCOC into disrepute.
The 58-year-old Chuene faces disciplinary hearings.
