The Greek athletic team has raised an eyebrow after recalling doping-tainted sprinter Katerina Thanou on their official team list. Admist the recent similar doping scandal news, British sports BOA took a tough stand on Dwain Chambers preventing him an Olympic spot on the team, while the Greeks is gladly embracing her with arms wide open, hoping Thanou will take part

Despite being on the provisional team list, there’s still a possibility that Katerina Thanou might not make the cut if International Olympic Committee didn’t issue an accreditation. That is subjective to IOC (International Olympic Committee) and pending for discussion on August 2 and 3rd. But Thanou lawyer is assured that her possible participation is just paperwork as he was quote, “There are no legal grounds for preventing her from taking part in the Olympics,”

Katerina Thanou was Greece silver medalist at the 2000 Sydney games for the 100m women event, and at the 2004 Athens games, she was one of the top favorite for medal standing but withdrew from the games after claiming she and training partner Konstantinos Kenteris had a motorcycle accident. Most view this as a ploy and staged to miss a drug test so as to avoid a doping scandal

On 26 June 2006 prior to a final ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, Katerina reached an out of court settlement with the IAAF accepting anti-doping rule violations of 3 missed tests between 27 July and 12 August 2004 and a failure to provide a urine and a blood sample on 12 August 2004 . In return, the more serious charges against them, those of evasion and refusal to provide a sample, were dropped. They have been eligible to compete since 22 December 2006

Thanou now 33 years old, recently ran in 11.39s in a 100m meet in Greece
