Justin Gatlin Promise to Return
  • January 15th, 2009

Justin Gatlin is the American Olympic gold medalist sprinter who is currently serving a four year ban after testing positive in 2006 for testosterone or its precursor.

Initially he was deemed a lifetime ban, but since he cooperated with USADA, he was instead given the four year ban term and his previous records/timings annulled.

During the ban, he even tried out for NFL football, but the former Olympic sprinter did not get signed by any NFL teams.

His ban sets to expire in July of 2010.

And now Gatlin has stated to the media he wishes to return. His 100m personal best is 9.85 seconds, the one legal of course.

Currently the 26 year old is doing TV shows, co-owns a training facility called The Factory, and is a voluntary coach at his old Woodham High School.

With 18 months away from competitive sprinting, Gatlin comeback progress has said to be encouraging. He even claimed his block times are better and faster than his Olympic 2004 gold medal performance.

He will be 28 years old when he returns, and that’s ‘old’ in terms of athletics years, but Gatlin responded, “People ask me if I still have it or if I’m too old. But I think my time off has preserved my legs. I still have the same speed. I’ve been running, and I’m still getting times that I had when I stepped off the track. So it’s still there. The dedication is there and the will is there.”
