Jearl Miles Clark is an American athlete, specializing in the the quarter-mile event with medals at the Olympic and World level. She was recently inducted into the USA National Track and Field Hall of Fame.
Although an established 400m runner, the 44-year-old is best known for her still standing American women’s 800m record at 1:56.40.
Below is a clip of her successful 1996 Olympics 4x400m women final outing. The USA was able to move to the lead on the penultimate leg by Kim Graham and Jearl Miles was able to hold the lead on the anchor leg.
Miles was tested to the end by Falilat Ogunkoya who ran a great anchor for Nigeria, with a tremendous closing sprint also from Grit Breuer of Germany who almost came clear of the field in the closing stretches.
