The Jamaica International Invitational 2009 was supposed to be Usain Bolt season outdoor opener but with his recent automobile accident, American sprinter Darvis Patton took the limelight instead.
Darvis won the men’s 100m event in a time of 10.02s (wind + 0.1 m/s). Second place was Daniel Bailey of Antigua and Barbuda who was also clocked the same time. The women’s 100m race saw Olympic silver medallist Kerron Stewart running a world leading best time of 10.92s (wind +1.2 m/s). It’s a new meet record to boot. The meet held at the National Stadium yesterday also saw a fine running from 400 metres hurdles runner Javier Culson in a time of 48.42s. His effort earned him a new Puerto Rico national record too. The women’s 400m hurdles was won by 2007 Pan American silver medallist Nickiesha Wilson in 55.20s.
