Usain Bolt to run in a street race
  • March 24th, 2009

Usain Bolt will debut his European outdoor season not on the track, but on the streets of Manchester.

The Jamaican is set to compete in innovative street race over 150 metres set in May.

The street will have a specially constructed tartan track on the top layer.

The unique race is in conjunction with Manchester’s inaugural Great CityGames which starts May 17th.

It seems unlikely we’ll see a showdown between Bolt vs Dwain Chambers; England fastest sprinter at the moment as the event organisers refuse to invite Dwain Chambers for the race, citing his Olympic ban and previous involvement with high-performance drugs.

Bolt was quoted, “I am very excited to compete for my first time in Manchester, my first time in a 150m race and my first time in a street race outside the stadium. I love competing in the UK. It is like my second home as I usually stay in London during the European racing season. When I heard about the idea I thought it would be great fun and something new and exciting.”
