The Great Australian Run to be flagged off 30th November will have an array of marathon champions and elite runners amongst the lineup. The 15km race in Melbourne was founded by Brendan Foster, a former 1976 Olympic 10000m bronze medalist. The race will start in Albert Park, and the course covers the scenic Melbourne City roads, before returning to Albert Park for the finish. Haile Gebrselassie marathon world record holder will be there, so will 2006 Commonwealth Games Marathon champion, Tanzanian Samson Ramadhani. Kenyan World champion Luke Kibet and two-time world half marathon silver medalist Patrick Makau Musyoki will also be the few firm favorite for the men’s race. The women’s category has an enticing lineup too with Beijing 2008 Olympic marathon champion, Romanian Constantina Dita-Tomescu and silver medalist of the 2008 Olympic edition, Kenya’s Catherine Ndereba. It will be a fast race and I wouldn’t be surprised if the 15km men’s world record of 41min 29sec tumbles or even the womens’ record. Official Site: www.greataustralianrun.com.au
