The lucrative Golden League series in Europe could be a world global event as the meeting director and owners plans to expand the format in the United States, China and the Middle East. Currently the Golden League meetings has six races, where a jackpot of US$1 million dollar is shared by any athlete who wins all the six races. The new racing format is set to launched in 2010 by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). It is reported that some of the new places being tinkered with are Beijing China, Eugene Oregon and Doha Qatar. Also there might be new European legs in the series such as Lausanne Switzerland, London England and Stockholm Sweden. It’s all about the money I reckon as the location with the most profitable proposal will likely be given rights to stage the series. But it’s all good for the fans, let’s hope athletics will prosper in the midst of capitalism.
