Energy Drinks: Potential Health Risk
  • September 28th, 2008

Caffeinated energy drink that are readily available on the market and consumed by many athletes pose a potential health risks as warned by Johns Hopkins scientists

They have done decade of research on the effect of caffeine and some of these energy drink containing the equivalent of 14 cans of Coca-Cola. The worrisome part is that most of the energy drink are unlabeled, none what so ever information pertaining to the drinks ingredients

Scientists are worried if such unlabeled energy drink goes on, with no included warnings, there post a health risk of caffeine intoxication. For the $5.4 billion industry in the United States alone, most energy drink markets these items to teens and young adults who are most at risk

Such consumers consumed the product, as it promises ‘performance enhancers’ and a ‘stimulant’ solution, be it for the need of college kids trying to cram for finals to athlete wanting an extra edge over their competitors and during training

If not checked, caffeine intoxication can lead to nervousness, anxiety, restlessness, insomnia, gastrointestinal upset, tremors, rapid heartbeats (tachycardia), psychomotor agitation, restlessness and pacing … and in rare cases, death

All I can advise is, take such energy drinks in moderation
