With four days to go for the Commonwealth Youth Games at Pune, India I take a look at some of the technology that will be used for the event The 7 day event spanning from October 12-18th will use timing, scoring, on-venue-result technology as a form of information dissemination, providing the athletes, officials and media on the happening at the games Real Time Updates The participants schedules, start lists, results and medal winners will be updated as quickly as possible to the main official website at cygpune2008.com. The games uses the latest Information Technology System via the central system server for everyone to have the information they need immediately for everyone’s convenience. OMEGA Timing The similar employed state-of-the-art Timing, Scoring, On-Venue-Result and Data handling systems that was used in Beijing Olympic Games 2008 will be used at the Commonwealth Youth Games. The Swiss Timing company OMEGA will provide the various centres, control rooms, internet and CIS (Commentator Information System) system results and special TV Graphics Electronic Timing Athletics and Swimming will be accurately measured up to 1/1000th of a sec for Photo-finish and Electronic Touch Pad system with instantaneous results employed for swimming and athletic, as it was done in Beijing Olympics 2008. SIUS ASCOR Shooting range at Pune is one of the best in Asia and can be compared with Beijing Olympics Shooting Range. It will have state-of-the-art scoring and ranking technology and you can watch shot-by-shot scoring and results of the shooters live sitting at home on your computer through the internet. Boxing Boxing will have electronic timing, scoring, judges’ evaluation system and unique Spycam in which judges’ decision can be observed and evaluated. Atos Origin The official system integrators used is called the Atos Origin. It integrates the On-Venue result system and Result Information system. It also handles the Accreditation system, Internet registration, Workforce management system, indecent tracking and publishing of the result via result info system on the website. It’s like the ‘brain’ of the games, which will be monitored by IT, Telecom and Internet experts 24/7 Optical Fibre Backbone The entire games system is connected by a Optical Fibre Backbone which will support Video signal, CCTV, Telephone, EPABX and DATA. Well basically what you’re reading from Commonwealth Youth Games website or at the venue looking at the results, this backbone supports the high speed data its transferring. It’s a secure network as claimed Some 70 Technology Specialists have been roped in. Of the 70 specialists, 50 are from Swiss Timing (OMEGA) and the rest have experinces from Beijing Olympics 2008 and other Olympics.
