Well add Mbulaeni Mulaudzi and Caster Semenya, World 800 metres men’s and women’s champion respectively, to the list of athletes pulling out of the Commonwealth Games.
Both cite injuries as their main reason for their withdrawal.
Semenya’s coach Michael Seme has gave a statement that she was suffering from a back injury, while Mbulaeni blames a lower-back and hamstring problem for his pull-out.
All I can say is that one can feign injury easily. I’m not saying both the South Africa athletes are not otherwise injured, but it sure is dodgy considering their timely announcement came at a period when the Commonwealth Games was plagued with setbacks, issues and condemnation from participating nations.
