This is Ivet Lalova third time winning the honour of being named “Bulgarian Athlete of the Year”. She last won it in 2004 and 2005 where she was recognised for her outstanding performances by winning 100m and 200m gold at the European Athletics Junior Championships in 2003. The 25 year old beat other Bulgarian athletes for the award such as high jumper Mirela Demireva and long jumper Nikolay Atanasov. Ivet had a disappointing Olympic outing in Beijing earlier this year, only managing to reach the 100m semi-finals where she finished seventh with a time of 11.51 seconds. Her 200m participation fall short in the second round where she was eliminated then.
