Bryshon Nellum is a 19 years old American sprinter from University of Southern California (USC) and he has been shot three times in the legs. Although Bryshon has recovered and in stable condition now, everyone is worried and hoping he will get back his world class running form after this horrifying shooting. He is one of the top under-19 world class sprinters currently and his rehabilitation for the next 3 months will determine if he can still run fast. Bryshon was a potential by many coaches who predicted within a few years time, he will be able to lower his 45 seconds timing in the 400m to 43 seconds, but all that look in jeopardy now. Last year he clocked 20.43 seconds for the 200m and 45.54 seconds for the 400m. He was the first high school athlete to win six track titles at his age level. It seems the USC sprinter shooting was stemmed from gang related violence as a gang slogan was shouted before he was shot three times in the legs (Both thigh and one at hamstring). The family responded and claims that it might also be perhaps some who is envious of Bryshon achievements. The incident happened 2am in the morning as Bryshon was leaving a restaurant. The assailants drove in a car and he was shot just three blocks away from his school. 200m – 20.43s (2007)400m – 45.38s (2007)
