Jamaican Asafa Powell started his outdoor season this year by running the 400m event in the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Invitational held at Kingston, Jamaica last weekend. He finished second overall in a time of 47.75 seconds. Last year he ran the same race, and clocked faster at 46.94 seconds. Although the 26 year old anchored Jamaica to the gold in a new world record time at the Beijing Olympics in August last year, he fail to win a medal in the 100m blue ribbon event, finishing fifth only. The former world record holder in the 100m was upbeat about his upcoming season. Asafa Powell commented to the media after the race, “Training has been going good and I am in good shape. This year I know that the only person that I will have to struggle with is me”.
