Despite Canada’s best finish in 12 years, where current head coach Les Gramantik achieved five top-8 finishes, eight top-12 finishes and eleven top-16 finishes in the last Beijing Olympic Games, he will be replaced by Alex Gardiner. Alex Gardiner was the head coach for Canada’s Olympic 2004 Athens team before leaving for Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) for four years, before returning again at the of this year when current head coach, Les Gramantik, contract ends. Gramantik will still be around in another position within Athletics Canada. Gardiner was re-hired due to his extensive experience. He has coached Canada at four World Track and Field Championships and also will be responsible leading Canada athletics team into the 2012 London Olympics.
