Some of the top names for the indoor competition in Stuttgart includes Ethiopian Meseret Defar, 2004 Olympic 5000m women champion to Abubaker Kaki, a young 19 year old prodigal Sudanese runner who holds the current 1000m world indoor record. The Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle venue has so far saw seven world records being set there, and more is expected to tumble for the 23rd edition of the 23rd Sparkassen Cup to be held this weekend. Former Kenyan turn US citizen Bernard Lagat will also be present. He will be at the top of his game and confidence with his recent Millrose Games mile win. He is expected to race in the 3000m event. Kenyan Wilfred Bungei will also be participating, probably in the 1000m, but he has tough competition from the Russian Yuriy Borzakovskiy who just set a new national record of 2:17.10 last weekend. It will surely be an exciting Sparkassen Cup and I’ll bring more reports of it once the results are all finalised. Official Site: www.sparkassen-cup.de
