An Overview

It was a exciting 9 days of athletics action at Nagai Stadium, as the 11th edition of IAAF world athletics championships came to a close on Sunday in Osaka Japan.

It as no surprise USA came out tops with fourteen gold, four silver and eight bronzes. Kenya finishes second overall at IAAF championships in Osaka with its five Gold medals

While China finished with one gold, one silver and one bronze. This is by far their since 1993 at the world athletics championships. A big boost in their preparation for the Beijing Olympic Games next year.

The star athlete of the competition would be Tyson Gay. He became just the second man to win the sprint treble (100m, 200m, 4x100m) at a single world championships when he helped the United States to gold in the 4×100 metres relay in Osaka, Japan.

The 9 day event came to a close with closing ceremony being graced by IAAF president Lamine Diackrace. The next world athletics championships will be in 2009, Berlin, Germany.

Our Team Singapore

Singapore sent two wildcard entries to the competition. They are NIE trainee teacher Amanda Choo and National Servicemen Abdul Hakeem. Both ran a splendid season best there. Amanda ran 12.29s in the 100m Women and Hakeem 14.94s in the 110m Men Hurdles
