  • February 26th, 2010

Looks like the first of three candidate, Tang Weng Fei, vying for the Singapore Athletics Association Presidency spot has released his manifesto yesterday.

Tang Weng Fei and Team Manifesto

The current state of athletics in Singapore requires a paradigm shift.

A new management team in Singapore Athletics Association (SAA) is clearly needed to raise Singapore Athletics to a new level where we can challenge for honors internationally.

The walls of ‘no confidence’, ‘inter club/affiliates bickering’, ‘lack of engagement’ among the current SAA management and the stakeholders (which includes Athletes, Coaches, Affiliates, Officials and Parent Support (Group) are blocking progress of athletics in Singapore and MUST be broken down.

Tang Weng Fei and Team Mission Statement

  • Develop a positive Track and Field environment using Athlete-Centric Approach.
  • Build a comprehensive Track and Field Development Programme.
  • Enhance the Coaches’ Education Development Programme.
  • Engagement of the Parent Support Group of Athletes.
  • Attain a state of self-sufficiency within the Association.
  • Achieve Top 3 position in the SEA Games

Of course by having reputable members on board doesn’t mean squat if the team mission and goal doesn’t convince the 21 affiliates which will be voting.

They’ll need to get to the grounds, doing their rounds of connecting with such affiliates.

SAA’s 21 affiliates are as follows:

  1. Athletics Officials Association
  2. Club HDB
  3. Flash Athletic Club
  4. Institute of Technical Education Sports Council
  5. MacRitchie Runners 25
  6. National Technological University
  7. National University of Singapore
  8. Ngee Ann Polytechnic
  9. NTUC Sports Club
  10. Police Sports Association
  11. Prisons Sports & Recreation Club
  12. Red Hawk Sports Club
  13. SIA Sports Club
  14. Singapore Armed Forces Sports Association
  15. Singapore Masters Athletics
  16. Singapore Polytechnic
  17. Singapore Press Holdings
  18. Singapore Schools Sports Council
  19. Swift Athletes Association
  20. Temasek Polytechnic
  21. Wings Athletic Club

Now we await the other two manifesto, one by the incumbent SAA President Loh Lin Kok and team, and Mr Cheah Kim Teck and team, who has yet to confirm his participation in the upcoming June election.

With that, SingaporeAthletics.com endorses, put their full support behind Tang Weng Fei and Team, as we’re convinced the team has the background, history, dedication, and ‘pedigree’ to lift Singapore Athletics out of the slippery slopes of obscurity it’s heading currently.
