Md Shameer Ayub

An online diary contribution by our Team Singapore athlete Shameer Ayub. His specialized events includes the 100m, 200m and the relays

Finally I kicked off the 2007 season @ the 1st AllComers meet with 60m & 80m. After failing to qualify for the Asian Games in Doha, my coach revamped the whole training program and system in Dec 06. Honestly, I have to give credit to him because i have ran the fastest ever time in my career. 6.82 (60m) & 8.65 (80m).

I am known for being a slow starter and ‘catching up in the later part of the races’. My best recorded 60m and 80m were 7.02 & 8.92. My coach refused to accept those facts and devised his own unique programs to help me with my first part of the race.

It was sheer hard work at first. I hated the pain i was feeling and i was also having doubts about the programs. (I have worked with some good coaches but none can make me run a good first part). Now, my doubts are cleared. I came in first together with Seng Song in the 60m race. Coming for my background, it is not easy to win a 60m race. I had expected friends like Izwan and Alfred to win me. (Alfred if u r reading this, Welcome Back Bro! I missed you last season man.)

Although i am happy with the results, my coach wasn’t clearly impressed. He said its a disappointing run because we had done better times in training and I didn’t execute the proper techniques we had worked on. Although i hate to agree, its true. Perhaps it is my first race. There is no excuse tho. I have to keep on working and see how it goes in my next race….

This 1st allcomers was really a good race for shameer and seng song. Both performed very well and for me, i was alittle disappointed in myself. was very very tensed up when i did my 60m. drained by the weather, had a lecture b4 i came for the race. was rushing for time. i still remember i did my 60m yr 2005, 6.96s then i had a bad hamstring pull during june. anyway.. im back now! get ready for more action.. shameer! u better maintain this way b4 u get ur ass whacked by me! ….. kidding..

Shameer bro… 8.65 is awesome dude… keep up the good work… set targets for yourself… there is no limit to speed… just explore the horizon… be matured… relaxed and one day you will be a sea games champion… i know it…
