The local athletics scene is coming to a close as the biggest and final event of the year, Singapore Open 2007 is here. It will be held on the 8-9th September at Centre of Excellence, Bukit Gombak stadium.
Have you signed up yet?
Well for many local athlete, after this weekend, they will transition into off-season. But not for our National athletes.
Last week SNOC has released a tentative list of athletes going to SEA Games based on their qualifying standard and SAA nominations. But however the list has not been officially released by SAA, thus many coaches and athletes are second guessing who’s going and who didn’t make the mark.
Singapore Open will however be the final qualifying SAA sanction meet for those who are still trying to earn their seats to SEA Games.
We just hope, more of our National athletes will qualify and hopefully there won’t be any more ala Dong Enxin incident. That would be the cruelest of sports injustice, to qualify but the association ‘forget’ to include them for the squad.
Another issue is the exemption of clubs, varsities and unattached relay teams from running the relays events. There was a time few years back when such non-National relay teams are allowed to run the 4×100m and 4×400m event. Now, only National team & Invited teams are allowed to run.
Our association just need to change the ruling and that’s that. No reason was given for the change. We’re the only country in the world, hosting our largest local athletics meet, without the inclusion of our local clubs, varsities and unattached teams. That’s rather weird don’t you think
Please stop sending me more emails about the relay issue and forward your queries to SAA email instead. Thank you
