The fourth SEA Junior Athletics Championships was held last week at Thong Nhat stadium in Ho Chi Minh City from June 6-7th. Singapore sent a contingent of youth athletes for the meet and they returned with positive results.
In general Thailand came out tops in terms of medal performance with 14 golds, 11 silvers and four bronzes. Vietnam was second with 10 golds, 7 silvers and 13 bronzes. Meanwhile Malaysia ranked third with two golds, four silvers and three bronzes. The competition saw 30 sports being contested by the 172 athletes from eight countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, Cambodia, Brunei, and the host Vietnam. Philippines and East Timor didn’t send any team for this edition. The tournament was attended by five officials from the Asian Athletics Association and the Southeast Asian Athletics Association and seven international referees.
