In final Day 6, for the field event we saw exceptional jump from Singapore Sports School Stefan Tseng to surpass the Championship record with 6.94m. We also exceptional performances from neighbourhood schools such as Ang Mo Kio Secondary and Dunman High, tit-for-tat performances with the usual elite top sports school such as SSP and Victoria Sch.

Day 5 report

day5natjr07.jpg

The weather was more forgiving today. The installment for National Juniors today saw two Championship and one age group record broken in the field event while one age group record smashed in the Girls U15 100m for the track event.

Day 4 report

interview_natjr07day4.jpg

Day 4 saw exceptional individual performances in the ladies discus and boys long jump. The weather was typical of the previous 3 event days as the day was accompanied with intermittent shower.

Prizes given out for today includes events such as the shotput, 1500m and the discus. Today’s event was held and finished on time albeit the wet weather, with some fine decisions by the officials to combine the heats and make it into a finals event.

Day 3 report

interview_natjr07day3.jpg

Day 3 of Singapore Junior saw some of the finals being held such as the hurdles, shotput, 400m and triple jump. It was an exciting day as few junior records was smashed.

Last but not the least, the rain accompanied the earlier part of the event and after the initial downpour, the dry spell held up till the rest of the last events.

Today marked halfway through the 33rd Singapore Junior and if we are to see the same kind of encouraging performances shown by our junior athletes, it will be an exciting National Schools in July, the penultimate local event for all our junior athletes.

Day 2 report

interview_natjrday2.jpg

Day 2 of 33rd Singapore Junior was no different than the previous day, as the weather again damped most part of the event with heavy downpour. Still there was exceptional ‘runs’ by our junior athletes.

Today saw events such as the exciting 200m, 800m heats and field event such as the javelin. Our neigbouring Bandar Penawar Sport Schools across the straits also took part in the various events being held.

The amazing times and result being clocked and achieved showed encouraging progress in our youth development and a strong improving coaching pedigree of our local coaches.

Day 1 report

interview_natjrday11.jpg

From the moment the starter’s gun sounded under the mid afternoon’s grey cloudy sky and windy condition, it became evident that the 33rd Singapore Junior would be a wet event like the previous year.

A crowd of athletes, supporters, coaches and teachers estimated at well over 500 packed the venue at the Gombak stadium, beautifully set alongside the plush greeny tops of Guilin ridge and the hill landslide patches, and for the most part, they left content.

The heavy downpour did came down during the middle of the 100m Heats and it continue to rain for most part of the afternoon. The 400m events in the end was postponed to a later date and the national event was dragged up to 7pm of which the last of the 100m Heats was finally staged.
