Day 5 of 24th SEA Games 2007
  • December 11th, 2007

Dec 11th, Tuesday

Today marks the last day of athletics at the 24th SEA Games. In total there will be 12 medals up for grabs. Host nation Thailand is leading the charts in overall and athletics sports medal, while Vietnam is second. Team Singapore only has one medal so far from Zhang Guirong, in the Discus and we hope today there will be one or two coming from the final day

We’ll get to see Muthukumaran in the Men’s 200m Semifinal. He will be in Heat 2 and it won’t be an easy task qualifying for the finals. His competitors include the Thai’s favorite Sittichai and the sprint demon from Indonesia & Philippines. Assigned to Lane 2 he’ll be running the more ‘difficult’ lane as maneuvering the curve will be tight. Muthukumaran has done a sub-22s this year and we hope it will be enough for the finals

There’ll be two of our ladies in the Shotput Final. Zhang Guirong and Wan Lay Chi. Hot off her heels winning the bronze in the Discus, Zhang is expected to bring home Gold in the Shotput as this is her pet event. Wan Lay Chi our very own local pedigree, has been a revelation, improving tremendously these few years. We’ll hope she’ll make her mark in the Women’s Shotput Final later on
