Dec 8th, SaturdayAlthough our athletes fail to win any medals yesterday, some athletes have achieved personal best and that’s all that matter. Here are today’s schedule below. On individual event, we’ll see only SMU undergrad Subaish running the 800m Men’s finals. The favourite is Malaysian Mohd Ridzuan who is seeded first with a season best of 1:52.70 but you can never underestimate the Vietnamese and Philippines runners On team event, we’ll see our 4x400m boys in action. The team consist of NIE teacher trainee Kenneth Khoo, Home Team Muthukumaran, Millenia Insititute’s Shalindran, SMU’s Subaish, NUS business undergrad Alex Teng and final year SMU undergrad Poh Seng Song It’s likely Subaish will be rested, being he ran 800m earlier and the final runner slot is between Shalindran and Poh Seng Song. The 4x400m team is being coached by Muhd Hosni. If you recall, he’s our former 100m sprint demon in the 80′s. There are five teams in the finals and Team Singapore 4x400m team is slotted in Lane 4. Teams to watch out for are the Thailand and Philippines We’ll also see Zhang Guirong and local thrower Wan Lay Chi in the Women’s Discus. Both have the potential and equal chance to be on podium finish based on their season best
Although Subaish in the Men’s 800m final and the Men’s 4x400m team achieved a season best in their respective events, it wasn’t enough to get them a podium finish. But knowing you gave your best, then I believe today’s Team Singapore performance is justified. It’s been a long time anyway the 4x400m team did a sub 3:15 timing We finally gotten our first athletics medal. It came from Zhang Guirong in the Women’s discus. Wan Lay Chi was behind Guirong in placing. Zhang threw 45.73m while Lay Chi 45.45m.
