Michel Butter wins Utrecht Marathon 2011

Dutch Michel Butter won the Utrecht Marathon in a time of 2:17:35, and was handsomely rewarded with the prize money of €10,100. The €100 from the competition, and €10,000 from the race organizers who promise the money for a Dutch win. Pauline Claessen, who the women event in a time of 2:56.22.

Haile Gebrselassie wins Vienna City half-marathon

Haile Gebrselassie won the half marathon in a time of 60:18 minutes. Starting two minutes later than the elite marathon runners, the Ethiopian passed the group at the 11 and 12 kilometers marker, and ran alone from the front.

Sports in Singapore is officially established in 1966 where a Sports Division was created in the Ministry of Social Affairs to boost the promotion of sports. The promotion of sports was further enhanced with the establishment of the National Sports Promotion Board in 1971. While not a major sporting power, Singapore's athletes have performed well in regional as well as international competitions. As for this blog, established in 1999, we'll do our part to promote sports in Singapore.
